I need help getting started on my sewing project?

I have a pattern for a fairly simple dog sweater. This is my first time ever really sewing on my new or any sewing machine (well since I was a child and didn’t do very well). I’ve been practicing on scrap fabric so I think I will be ok once I get started but question is about the tracing and cutting of the fabric. There aren’t really any instructions that came with it except a few direction on pattern itself and thats what confused me. On the pattern on the end it says “this end center on fold” but I feel like if I do that then I will end up with the fold over the bottom the part that is supposed to be open, instead of the top that is supposed to drape the back. I hope this isn’t too confusing to understand without seeing. I feel like I should put the top of the pattern at the fold because you aren’t supposed to have to sew the actual sides together its supposed to turn out one big piece. So help if you can, and thank you.

It’s hard to say without seeing the pattern. Check the end of the instructions and see how the garment is placed on the dog. I have had patterns that are written wrong. If you know who manufactured the pattern(Simplicity, McCall etc.) you can e-mail their customer service and they will have an expert answer you back…I’ve done this on several occasions in the past, when I just couldn’t figure out what the pattern was telling me to do. Another idea would be to take the pattern to your local fabric store and ask some of the workers (or ladies looking through the pattern books:-) to help you. You can always find someone in a fabric store, whether it be customer or employee, who would be more than happy to help with these things.
