Big Dog Rescue Ranch
great pyranees?

i love these dogs and there are a lot in my area that are used for flock guarding and some herding, i don’t live on a ranch anymore although i’m still in a rual area and i’m worried about how a puppy will adapt to life in town? i can handle hyper dogs but i don’t want him to be depressed. i really like bigger dogs and the local breeders in my area are few and far between so i think it more practical to get a dog thats bred locally than it is to travel a long distance to get a different breed. also does anyone have so good info on the breed? i won’t be getting one for a few years so i’m just starting to learn about them. i also rescue all my dogs but i wanted to get a pure bred from a breeder for a change.
Pyrenees, sorry :)

http://www.lgd.org might be a good place for you to look.

Also, please consider adopting from rescue – there are TONS of wonderful Pyrs out there who need homes.

Things to know about Pyrs:

1) They bark. Deep, resounding barks when they think something is wrong. It’s what they’re bred to do.

2) They shed. They have thick, dense, warm coats meant to protect them from the weather.

3) They drool.

4) They are independent, hard-headed, and stubborn.

5) “What do you call a Pyr off-leash? Gone!!” Pyrs need a securely-fenced enclosure, otherwise they can (and will) adopt the neighboring several square miles as “their territory” to patrol and guard.
