How would i train my dog to lay on his bed?
Both of my dogs just got their own big circle beds and they are puggles so they’re naturally stubborn. So how could i train them to lay on their bed and for them to know that’s what it’s thanksss
Ok, this is going to require more explanation than I can give you here but I’ll try. First you need to buy a clicker (go to a pet store, they will know what that is) and some really good treats.
Then, work with one dog at a time. First, click the clicker and give the dog a piece of food. Do this until the dog is looking for the food after each click. Then start working near the bed. Begin by clicking and treating the dog for simply looking at the bed. Then when they become about 80% successful with that, click only for putting part of their body on the bed (such as a paw). Then slowly increase the criteria for how much body the dog must put on the bed. Eventually the dog will figure out to lay down on the bed. When they consistently lay on the bed add whatever command you want (I use “go to bed”).
Remember: Consistency is key. If you click once for looking at the bed you have to click every time until the behavior becomes consistent. Also, the click ALWAYS comes with a treat, even if you clicked accidentally.
